Summer Team Cup 2025 – Our team of 6 motivated players takes on the challenge
For all table tennis players who can’t resist the long summer break, the Summer Team Cup has been running for five years. It always takes place nationwide after the end of the previous season. Many teams like to use the Summer Team Cup as a preparation for the new season. “The Mindelheimers” compete with a team of six players, always playing as a three-person team in alternating lineups.

Summer Team Cup 2025 – The games in detail...
Conclusion of the STC 2025
A great event during the long summer break, with opponents from other divisions and leagues. Our team finished fifth in the final standings, confident of being able to compete with the top teams. They only lost narrowly 3-4 against the two teams that were way ahead in the standings.
Victory and defeat can be so close together – Fifth sets decide the match
The final match of the STC round once again demonstrated how close victory and defeat are in table tennis. The 6-1 defeat at the hands of Wertachtaler, a joint team from Türkheim and Amberg, seems straightforward at first glance. But considering that four matches ended in the fifth set, three times 11-9 and one 12-10, the seemingly high final score is put into perspective. Ultimately, only Timo Schütt was able to score the consolation point, and he did so comfortably with a 3-0 victory against the hosts’ number 1.

Victory and defeat in table tennis can be so close…
Simon Hacker undefeated – One set decides the match
In match 5, we faced N-Kaiser, a team from Hohenpeissenberg, Schongau, Thalkirchen, and Dachau. The visitors arrived as the undefeated league leaders and thus naturally entered the match as favorites. After the first round of singles and doubles, the score was 3:1, with the Mindelheim duo Pechhold/Alf only conceding the match to the visitors in the fifth set, losing by a very narrow margin of 11:9. Only our strong number 1 Simon Hacker was able to hold on, winning his singles match after a clear 11:1 in the fifth set. He was then the one who confidently won his second match in 3 sets, reducing the score to 2:3. Thimo Böhm fought selflessly against his higher-class opponent, but ultimately had to concede the match after the set was tied at 1:1. After Eduard Alf won his second singles match with a strong performance, the final score was unfortunately a narrow 3:4 defeat.

Summer Team Cup 2025 – Strong performance against top team
In the fourth round of the Summer Team Cup, the Mindelheim team, consisting of players from the district leagues, faced a tough challenge. They faced the team from Dösingen, featuring two players from the district league who had also played in the state league, and Vanessa Hartl from the TSV Herbertshofen top league team. On paper, it looked like a no-brainer, but the first few singles matches showed that “The Mindelheimers” knew how to fight back.
Timo Schütt had a difficult start to the match and was down 0-2 sets before gaining momentum in the third set and narrowing the gap to a clear 11-4. With a bit of luck, he could have forced the deciding set, but lost the fourth in overtime 15-13. The many narrowly lost sets in overtime would prove decisive over the course of the match. The next two singles both went into the deciding fifth set, and while Simon Hacker won, Folker Königbauer lost the point 13-11. The subsequent doubles match, however, was hopeless for “Die Mindelheimer,” and the score was 3-1 for the hosts. An overall victory for Mindelheim was therefore still within the realm of possibility.
The last three singles matches demonstrated how close a seemingly decisive 6-1 defeat can be to an upset. Simon Hacker narrowly lost in five sets after a tough fight, Timo Schütt lost all his sets in overtime (10, 11, and 11), and Folker Königbauer, after a 1-1 tie in sets (9-11 and 11-9), lost the last two again in overtime, 13-11 and 12-10. So, unfortunately, in the end, they came away empty-handed. Nevertheless, all in all, a very good team performance, with the certainty of having a chance even against higher-class opponents. There really could have been more in it…

Summer Team Cup 2025 – Wolf-Dieter Pechhold becomes match winner
The third match in Finning marked a brief return for veteran Wolf-Dieter Pechhold, who played in the neighboring town of Schorndorf for many years. Folker Königbauer initially suffered a narrow 11:9 defeat against Finning’s number 1 in the deciding set, but Timo Schütt and Wolf-Dieter Pechhold secured a 2:1 lead going into the doubles match with their victories. After a dramatic 18:16 win for the Finning duo in the first set, Schütt/Königbauer equalized with a clear 11:3, but then narrowly lost sets 3 and 4 11:9. The match moved into the second round of singles, and while Folker Königbauer gave his opponent no chance, Timo Schütt had to fight hard and ultimately lost in the fifth set. With the score at 3:3, it was time for “returnee” Pechhold to step up to the table, and it was a high-level match with some top-class rallies. Wolf-Dieter Pechhold finally won his second singles match, securing the 4:3 victory and becoming the match winner.

Summer Team Cup 2025 – Unfortunate and narrow defeat in the 2nd game
After the first singles, Mindelheim led 2-1 and the doubles match was on. A seemingly secure 2-0 lead was unfortunately not enough, and after losing the third set, the guests gradually gained ground. The Mindelheim duo could no longer counter the Buhn brothers’ consistent attacking play, and the score was tied at 2-2. Simon Hacker brought his team back into the lead with a 3-0 win, and despite a great fightback, Thimo Böhm had to concede an equaliser against his higher-class opponent. The decisive match for veteran Wolf-Dieter Pechhold was like a rollercoaster ride. After trailing 0-2, he won the third set 11-1 (!) and was already leading 9-5 in the fourth, with the fifth set seemingly within reach. But a few contested balls in the guests’ favor turned the match around, and in the end the set was lost in overtime, and the guests took home the win.

Controversial decisions and unfortunate, narrow set losses…
Summer Team Cup 2025 – "The Mindelheimers" start the tournament successfully
SG Peiting/Peissenberg/Schongau were the guests in match 1. The first singles were hard-fought and while Timo Schütt won his match, Simon Hacker and Folker Königbauer came up short. They then leveled the score with a comfortable 3-0 win in the doubles. The following singles were hard to beat in terms of tension and drama. Simon Hacker fought back from a 1-2 deficit to win the 5th set, which he eventually won 18-16 after numerous match points on both sides. Folker Königbauer’s match, which he had to deal with on long pimples, was no less exciting. After leading 2-1 in sets, he already had two match points at 10-8 in the fourth set, but he was unable to capitalize and also had to go to the deciding set, which he ultimately won 11-9 with nerves of steel and experience. The strong Timo Schütt extended the lead to 5-2 and remained undefeated.
